Psychotherapy and other mental health services have had a long history of accessibility problems and while the cost is often cited as a primary barrier, for many the issue runs much deeper.

In the ninth episode of the It’s Complicated podcast, we share three conversations with people currently developing and persuing novel solutions to address the dimensions of race, class, and geography acting as barriers to mental health services.

First, we speak with Kemoy Jemmott of the Queer Black Therapy Fund where we’ll learn about her efforts to raise and redistributing funds to queer black individuals while building a network of culturally competent therapists.

Next, we catch up with Kathrine Dennis to talk about Expanding Circles which is an early-stage non-profit where individuals without the resources to pay for therapy can exchange community service work for the care they seek.

Finally, we speak with the notorious Berlin-centric meme page, Berlinauslandermemes about how to turn a viral social media platform into a force for good through dark comedy and the sharing of resources.
