Local therapist communities, we’re coming to you <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over a decade ago, Johanne and I began organising meetups with therapists and psychologically-minded people in Berlin. Since then, we’ve been indirectly exploring a vital question: how is community shaped and experienced in our modern world?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The term \u2018community\u2019 has become a buzzword, often co-opted by big tech companies with world-changing aspirations. While we share a similar goal, our focus is on helping our clients transform their inner worlds, which in turn, may influence the world around them. With that in mind, we thought it important to clarify what we mean when we use the term \u2018therapist community\u2019 and outline our vision for building a more sustainable marketplace<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defining Community in a Modern World<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Etymologically, \u2018community\u2019 dates back to the 14th century, referring to people connected by their shared locality. It also pertains to \u201cthe common people\u201d (as opposed to rulers). The Latin word communitatem<\/em> means \u2018fellowship, a community of relationships or feelings.\u2019 In German, we use the word Gemeinschaft<\/em> to express a similar idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Johanne and I use the word \u2018community\u2019 today, we\u2019re referring to a \u2018holding space\u2019 for therapists\u2014one that isn\u2019t limited by geography. We envision a community where therapists can connect both globally and locally through in-person city meetups and digital interactions. We want technology to facilitate these conversations and strengthen bonds between practitioners, unified by their diversity\u2014an idea that may seem paradoxical when considering the traditional use of the word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Role of Tech in Diverse Therapist Communities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Based on our experiences over the past decade, we believe that a global network of therapists, united in their diversity, can help practitioners build healthier, more sustainable practices. Personal referrals and networking have always been the foundation of building a private practice<\/a>. Our aim is to expand these community efforts to support your professional and personal growth, as well as your clinical practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s Complicated provides not only the best tools for online exposure and client leads but also offers an international support network of like-minded practitioners\u2014each growing their own practices. However, a global presence needs to be balanced with a local grounding. In fact, more than a third of clients seeking therapy through It\u2019s Complicated prefer in-person sessions. This year, our focus is on strengthening the local presence and communities within It\u2019s Complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why Johanne and I decided to embark on a tour\u2014a journey across Europe to meet as many therapists as possible in person. After all, a therapist community is only as strong as its members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Cities: Barcelona<\/strong> and Amsterdam<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The first stops are Barcelona on November 1st-2nd<\/strong> and Amsterdam on December 6th-7th<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
