The practice of couples therapy will vary depending on the therapist’s approach, but oftentimes couples therapy involves a focus on a specific problem (e.g. jealousy or sexual difficulties) and change-oriented interventions early on in the process. 

Succesful couples therapy will lead to couples gaining insight into the relational dynamics maintaining the problem, and help both partners understand each of their roles in their dysfunctional behaviors and what they can do to change.

The group in which the psychotherapeutic process takes place represents a similar psychological environment to that of the family, or to those settings where we are not alone (for example at work or other social events). The group co-creates a space of trust, understanding, support and confrontation. The group therapist carefully ensures that the processes in the group flow in the direction of progress of both the group and the individuals within it. Group therapy is suitable for a wide range of populations, from healthy individuals to persons who are in distress or crisis, those who need support as family members, to addicts who are struggling to get their lives in order, and those who are experiencing mental health problems.



In der Psychoanalyse würden Sie verschiedene Aspekte Ihres äußeren und inneren Lebens erforschen und untersuchen, wie diese mit Ihren Symptomen zusammenhängen könnten. In der Sitzung werden Sie gebeten, frei über alles zu sprechen, was Ihnen in den Sinn kommt, ohne jegliche Zensur (freie Assoziation), der Psychoanalytiker wird viele Fragen stellen, um die Reflexion und das Verständnis zu fördern. Der Psychoanalytiker wird auch Interpretationen geben, d. h. sein Verständnis des Materials des Klienten (Analysanden). Je nach Vereinbarung zwischen Analytiker und Analysand finden die Sitzungen ein- bis fünfmal pro Woche statt, entweder von Angesicht zu Angesicht oder auf der Couch liegend.

Das Ziel der Behandlung ist es, ein besseres und tieferes Verständnis für sich selbst zu erlangen und freier und im Einklang mit seinem wahren Selbst zu leben. Da wir sehr komplexe Wesen sind, kann eine solche Erforschung langwierig sein. Im Gegensatz zu einigen kürzeren Therapien, die vielleicht nur ein paar Monate dauern, dauern psychoanalytische Behandlungen in der Regel Jahre. Die Forschung zeigt jedoch, dass die Psychoanalyse und die mit ihr verbundenen psychodynamischen Behandlungen auf lange Sicht längerfristige Auswirkungen auf die allgemeine Gesundheit und Funktionsfähigkeit haben. 

In psychoanalysis, you would explore different aspects of your external and internal life and how those might relate to your symptoms. Based on the psychoanalytic theory the symptom (e.g., depression, panic attacks) is a sign that there is something that is not working in the psyche and/or life of an individual.

In the session you will be asked to speak freely about whatever comes to your mind, without any censorship (free association), the psychoanalyst will ask a lot of questions to help with reflection and understanding. An analyst will also give interpretations, which is their understanding of the client’s (analysand's) material. Depending on the agreement between the analyst and the analysand, the frequency of sessions is from one to five times a week, either sitting face-to-face or laying on the couch.

The goal of the treatment is to gain a better and deeper understanding of oneself and to live more freely and in line with one's true self. Since we are very complex beings, such exploration can be lengthy, so in contrast to some shorter therapies which might last for a couple of months, psychoanalytic treatments usually last in years. However, research shows that in the long run, psychoanalysis and its related psychodynamic treatments have longer-lasting effects on the overall health and functioning.

Angststörungen sind die häufigste Form von emotionalen Störungen und können jeden Menschen in jedem Alter betreffen. Anxiety disorders are actually the most common form of emotional disorder and can affect anyone at any age. The different types of anxiety disorders are panic disorder, phobia, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, separation anxiety disorder, illness anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).


Depression, auch bekannt als schwere depressive Störung, ist eine häufige und schwere psychische Erkrankung, die sich negativ auf Ihre Gefühle, Ihr Denken und Ihr Verhalten auswirkt. Depressionen verursachen Gefühle der Traurigkeit und/oder einen Verlust des Interesses an Aktivitäten, die man früher gerne gemacht hat. Depression, also known as a major depressive disorder, is a common and serious mental illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you behave. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It may decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home. Fortunately, it is also treatable.
