Die Akzeptanz- und Commitment-Therapie (ACT) beruht auf dem Grundsatz, dass die meisten psychischen Leiden auf zwei Dinge zurückzuführen sind: 1) dass Menschen in ihren eigenen Gedanken gefangen oder verstrickt sind, und 2) dass Menschen versuchen, unerwünschte Gedanken und Gefühle zu vermeiden oder loszuwerden. 

Deshalb unterstützt der ACT-Berater den Klienten dabei, den Kampf aufzugeben und sich von den schwierigen Gedanken und Gefühlen zu distanzieren. Ziel ist es, die psychologische Flexibilität der Person zu erhöhen, indem sie sich darin übt, im gegenwärtigen Moment zu sein und offen für ihre Erfahrungen zu sein und Handlungen zu setzen, die von ihren Werten geleitet sind. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, werden im ACT-Prozess Achtsamkeitsübungen durchgeführt.


Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) rests upon the tenet that most psychological suffering comes from two things: 1) that people are caught up or entangled in their own thoughts, and 2) that people struggle to avoid or get rid of unwanted thoughts and feelings. 

This is why the ACT counselor will assist the client in dropping the struggle and distancing him or herself from the difficult thoughts and emotions. The goal is for the person to have increased psychological flexibility, by practicing being in the present moment with openness to our experience, and taking action that is guided by his or her values. To reach this goal mindfulnesses exercises are practiced in the ACT process.

Der Berater unterstützt den Klienten dabei, über sich selbst nachzudenken und das Problem auf verschiedene Weise zu erkunden. Auf diese Weise kann der Klient emotionalen Stress abbauen und neue Einsichten in seine Funktionsweise und das Problem, das er lösen möchte, gewinnen.




The counsellor uses specific counselling methods to improve the client's psychological state, inner experience, self-image, behaviour, and to help them to develop positively as a person and to improve their quality of life. Through the counselling process, the individual can acquire skills that will help them to cope with various life situations and problems in the future.

At the beginning of the counselling process, the professional and the client clearly define the client's problem and together set the goals they want to achieve through counselling. The client's role in the counselling process is to reveal their thoughts and feelings related to the problem through the conversation, and in this way to actively engage with them and their problems. The counsellor supports the client in thinking about themself and exploring the problem in various ways. In this way, the client can release emotional distress and also gain new insights into their functioning and the problem they want to solve.

The practice of couples therapy will vary depending on the therapist’s approach, but oftentimes couples therapy involves a focus on a specific problem (e.g. jealousy or sexual difficulties) and change-oriented interventions early on in the process. 

Succesful couples therapy will lead to couples gaining insight into the relational dynamics maintaining the problem, and help both partners understand each of their roles in their dysfunctional behaviors and what they can do to change.

Family therapy can help family members through major transitions, difficult periods, conflicts between family members, and physical or mental health problems in family members. The main assumption of family therapy is that the problem of an individual can’t be properly addressed without understanding it in the group (family) context. Family therapy focuses on improving communication, which in turn can build stronger relationships. 

Family therapy is usually short-term and solution-focused. It is not required that all family members attend the therapy. Also “family” does not necessarily mean people living in the same household or blood relatives, it can mean anyone who plays a significant supporting life-long role in someone’s life.
