There are many kinds of established therapeutic approaches nowadays, like psychodynamic psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). You can read more about each type in this blog post.
Don't worry if you are not sure what particular approach fits with your needs. Your first appointment will be an assessment where you can discuss your issues and goals for therapy. Many therapists nowadays are also what is known as 'integrative' or ‘eclectic’, meaning they are trained in several types of therapy they can mix to best match your needs.
