About me

I offer specialised therapy services to help adult children of emotionally unavailable parents navigate their unique challenges and foster personal growth. My approach is grounded in Schema Therapy, which is tailored to address the deep-rooted issues stemming from childhood and to meet core emotional needs. Individual Therapy Sessions I provide one-on-one therapy sessions focused on helping you understand and overcome the impact of growing up with emotionally unavailable parents. Each session is designed to address your specific concerns and goals, providing you with personalized support and strategies for healing and growth. Understanding the Challenges Adult children of emotionally unavailable parents often face a variety of challenges, including: • Difficulty Forming and Maintaining Relationships: Struggles with intimacy, trust, and setting boundaries. • Low Self-Esteem and Self-Worth: Persistent feelings of inadequacy or unworthiness. • Emotional Dysregulation: Difficulty managing emotions, leading to anxiety, depression, or mood swings. • Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms: These may include people-pleasing, avoidance, perfectionism, self-sabotage, emotional suppression, addictive behaviours, codependency, overachievement, negative self-talk, isolation, excessive caregiving, compulsive spending, and chronic anxiety or depression. • People-Pleasing Behaviors: Overwhelming need for approval and fear of rejection. • Identity Confusion: Struggling to understand one's own desires, goals, and values. • Chronic Guilt and Shame: Persistent feelings of guilt or shame, often stemming from unmet parental expectations.

Approach

Rooted in Safety and Acceptance In my therapy practice, I prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment where individuals can explore their histories, emotions, and relationships without fear of judgment. This foundation of safety and acceptance allows clients to engage in their therapeutic journey authentically. Genuine Engagement and Commitment I approach therapy with genuine interest and commitment to understanding each client's unique narrative. By actively listening and empathizing, I help uncover internal dynamics and patterns that shape their current experiences and behaviors. Addressing Core Emotional Needs Using Schema Therapy, I focus on identifying and addressing core emotional needs that may have been unmet during childhood. This involves uncovering deeply held beliefs (schemas), fulfilling essential emotional needs like safety and nurturance, and developing healthier coping strategies. Tackling Emotional Challenges Together, we address emotional challenges such as anxiety and overwhelm through a variety of therapeutic techniques. This includes enhancing self-awareness, resolving internal conflicts, and building resilience and self-esteem. Fostering Lasting Growth and Healing My goal is to lay the foundation for lasting growth and healing. By empowering clients with tools to navigate life's challenges and promoting healthier relationships, they can achieve a more fulfilling and emotionally stable life. Conclusion Through a supportive environment, genuine engagement, and a structured approach to addressing emotional needs and challenges, I guide clients towards meaningful personal growth and healing.
