About me
I grew up in a small town in the far North of Portugal, where I was surrounded by green mountains and the ocean, giving me a sense of comfort that has become very important to me.
I moved to Porto when I was 18 to study Psychology, fell involve with the city and stayed true to it for more than 20 years before deciding to move out of Portugal.
With a deep curiosity about my surroundings, I am fascinated by how people advance and prosper, and how different influences (particularly cultural, educational, social and familial) can contribute to their growth. Berlin offers a bubbling mix of cultures and backgrounds, and the power of humans to create their own path.
My decision to become a psychologist came from a recognition of the privilege and responsibility that comes with supporting people in their search for a fuller and more adaptable version of themselves.
My approach
I approach psychotherapy from a Constructivist perspective, which comes from an understanding of people as complex beings under construction. Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as a basis, I have added complementary strategies such as narrative, emotion and body work, and mindfulness.
In our meetings you can expect conversational and action strategies through which I might invite you to conduct experiments. These will take place in and outside the clinical setting, providing you with the opportunity to explore various aspects of yourself and the reality around you, or to develop specific skills.
I consider the balance of the various dimensions of a person (emotional, physical, cognitive and spiritual) within a developmental contextual perspective (considering what a client might be facing in that particular period of their life, such as: clarifying identity, building long-term intimate relationships, parenthood, and career (re)definition).

Education
I have a graduation in Psychology, and I am certified as a specialist in both Psychotherapy and Clinical and Health Psychology by the Portuguese Psychologists' Association (Ordem Portuguesa de Psicólogos).

I received supervision during the first years of my working carer and again while working at Porto University.
I was part of research teams in the field of Attachment and Emotions (Isabel Soares, Paulo Machado, Pedro Dias, Inês Jongenelen), Identity and Self (João Salgado) and Narratives (Margarida Henriques); some scientific presentations and publications resulted from these collaborations.
I have received additional training in fields such as Family Therapy, Emotional Work (with Leslie Greenberg), Attachment, Suicide in Adolescence, Relaxation Technics, and Communication in a Helping Relationship
