I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy. I believe the presenting symptoms have underlying roots and I choose to work with that root causes. Symptoms may change but, if not addressed, the underlying issues remain. The problems that I work with, eating problems, also have deeper roots. We address the symptom through intuitive eating, however I also want to focus on what is underneath. Thus, we talk about everything in therapy. Your dreams, old memories or favorite band can be our subjects in the sessions. Nothing is forbidden, nothing is nonsense in therapy. The psychotherapy process may take between a few weeks and a few years depending on the presenting issues.
I resemble psychotherapy process to a journey. The client is driving, they are leading the process. As the therapist, I am a companion in this journey. My expertise is my map, but this is essentially your journey. Change and transformation will come through self-discovery.
