About me

I grew up in Greece and initially trained as a Social Worker. I later lived in Ireland and the UK where I trained and worked as a Systemic Psychotherapist in mental health services, both with adults and children/adolescents.

In these settings I learned a lot about how mental health affects people and those who care about them. I understood that problems in relationships can affect someone's wellbeing profoundly. I also experienced that significant others can be crucial contributors in someone's journey towards wellbeing. I witnessed improvement in people's depression, anxiety and other mental health struggles through working on relationship difficulties. I also witnessed loving families finding ways to help their loved ones who struggled with mental health difficulties by becoming part of the solution. I worked with many individuals on developing a better relationship with themselves and reducing their mental health struggles.

I am a registered therapist with the following organisations:
UK Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP) / the Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice UK (Registered Therapist and Approved Supervisor)
Nederlandse Vereniging voor Relatie-en Gezinstherapie (NVRG)
Nederlandse Associatie voor Psychotherapie (NAP)
European Association for Psychotherapy (European certificate of Psychotherapy, ECP).

Alongside my work as a a systemic family therapist in the NHS, I worked as a lecturer and clinical supervisor on the MSc. Family and Systemic Psychotherapy delivered by Birmingham Family Therapy Training and the University of Birmingham.

I moved to Rotterdam with my family in 2020 and started an Independent practice under the name Mitos Relationship and Family Therapy. I work with individuals, couples and families.

I also provide supervision to professionals who work with families and who want to know more about Systemic therapy or NVR, including those who want to meet the registration requirements of UKCP, NVRG and SKJ.

My approach

As a Systemic Therapist I specialise in relationships. I work with anyone experiencing relationship difficulties within their family, couples relationship or other significant relationships.

Adults:
Sometimes relationships difficulties can impact on our wellbeing. Sometimes it's the other way around, our mental health or other difficulties impact on our most important relationships.

I work with anyone who experiences difficulties in their wellbeing or mental health (anxiety, depression, stress, health issues) as result of a difficulty in a significant relationship, past or current. I also work with people who want the help of their loved ones in improving their mental health. Therapy can take place individually, in family or as a couple.

I also provide couples therapy. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (Advanced level, Core Skills) and I work with many couples who want to improve their communication and relationship satisfaction.

Children:
Family therapy is very useful for families supporting children who struggle with depression, anxiety, ASD, behaviour concerns, isolation, trauma, loss, illness, big transitions. I have a lot of training and experience in Non Violent Resistance with parents of children who display aggressive, controlling or self destructive behaviours.

I work with children in the context of family therapy. This might mean joint sessions with parents and children or separate sessions for children and their parents, with some joint sessions as needed. I also work with parents who want help with concerns about their child/children when the children do not wish to see a professional.

Inclusivity:
I strive to provide a practice that celebrates diversity and is inclusive to people of all sexual orientations, cultures, religious/spiritual beliefs, intellectual and physical abilities. I am passionate about social justice and about uncovering inequalities and their impact on people's identities and lives.
