Welcome. My name is Madeleine, I am a French-American queer third culture kid who grew up moving every few years. Having grown up amongst cultures (Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Angola, France, Italy, Canada and Brazil), I have never truly found “home” and consider myself more international, open to all kinds of languages and cultures different from my own, and intimately connected with the wonders and difficulties that come from moving to a new country.
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Hispanic Studies at McGill University in Canada, and a Masters in Counselling Psychology at Webster University Leiden in The Netherlands. I also have completed a trauma-informed body psychotherapy training, Somatic Experiencing Professional Training, with Somatic Experiencing International in Italy. Additionally, I am passionate about working with sexuality issues and have completed the Somatic Sexuality Healing Certificate with Ariel Garietto at BodyMind Opleideigen. My approach to therapy is integrative, combining Somatic, Humanistic, Schema Therapy, Drama Therapy and Psychodynamic approaches.
Having written my master’s thesis on third culture kids and their experience of identity and interpersonal relationships, I enjoy working with experiences related to the impact of moving and transitions, adjusting to a new country, migratory grief, immigration, and third culture kids. I also feel passionately about working with those who experience social anxiety, sexuality, burnout, grief and childhood trauma, as well as the queer and poly communities.
With over 12 years experience working in the mental health field through volunteering and working in crisis and emotional support lines, peer support centers, sexual assault protection centers and employee assistance programs, I am incredibly passionate about mental health awareness and mental health education. In terms of providing therapy and psychological care specifically, I have 7+ years experience working with ex-pats, immigrants, third-culture kids, as well as the LGBTQIA+ and poly community. I also offer clinical supervision to internship student-therapists and starting therapists in private practice, as well as guest lectures and workshops on Somatic Psychology ad-hoc to various universities and privately.
I also offer Clinical Supervision for internships student-therapists and therapists in private practice. My supervisory philosophy is contemplative, reflective, and curious, allowing space for you to become your own kind of psychologist, understanding your transference and countertransference in the room, and developing your skills.
On a personal note, I am passionate about anti-oppression and advocacy, dancing, music, yoga, theatre and spending time in nature with my loved ones.
I am a Counselling Psychologist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Somatic Sexuality Healing Practitioner, and Yoga Teacher in The Hague, The Netherlands. I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with social anxiety, sexuality, burnout, grief and childhood trauma. Having been trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE), Somatic Sexuality Healing, and Hatha Yoga, I enjoy working with the body’s organic wisdom, whether it be focused on improving mental or physical health. I help my clients reconnect to their inner peace, rebuild self-esteem and develop self-compassion for themselves and others. My approach is founded in curiosity, compassion and care, whether that be in the therapy office or on the yoga mat.
I believe that at some point or another, as human beings we will suffer, and that we deserve to be seen and supported in that suffering. I believe in the importance of tailoring the therapy to your unique needs. This means I use an integrative approach, inspired by creative and embodied techniques (Humanistic-Existential approaches, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic approaches, Psychodrama and Somatic Therapy approaches - SE, Sensorimotor, Hakomi).
My values in my personal and professional life include building community, authentic and vulnerable relationships, building self-awareness and self-reflection, as well as building a more compassionate world one person at a time. Therapy and yoga do not only benefit the individual cared for, but all those around them. I believe in the importance of integrating the body and the mind to help connect to this more authentic self. My approach to counselling, as well as yoga teaching is founded in curiosity, compassion and care.
Originally trained in Psychodynamic and Humanistic-Existential Therapy, I am further inspired by creative and embodied approaches (Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor and The Hakomi Method, as well as Psychodrama and Drama Therapy). By supporting the organic unfolding of your own inner wisdom, I believe it is important to develop a unique treatment plan that reflects your goals. A passionate yoga instructor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I have seen first hand the intricate connection between the body and the mind and the power of body-focused approaches to healing.
I work within and am committed to an anti-oppressive framework, gender affirming and sex and body positive work, as well as how structural inequalities and discriminations affect certain groups.
