I consider a Psychoterapy as a road to awareness and freedom: freedom from our automatisms, unaware fixed-toughts and "partial" interpretations, which sometimes cause emotional pain or stop us from getting the most out of our lives. In this perspective, a therapist is, first of all, an "awareness-trainer", guiding the patient towars systematic and lucid awareness of every fixed scheme the mind is stuck into, and the way she/he manages the emotional side of it. Then, the therapist will help the patient towards new possible perspectives and self-explainations, that will in turn become new behaviors and possibilities. In the process, easy explainations from neurosciences and evolutionary biology can help the patient understand why we humans work the way we do.
