About me

About me, I am a Psychotherapist and Psychologist, originally from the South-East of England and currently living out my dreams of traveling around Europe. My love for traveling came from traveling at a very young age with my family to different countries, and it has certainty framed who I am today; a person who loves nature, adventure and curiosity for life!

My love for Therapy and Psychology came from meeting a different array of personalities through my travels and growing up. I have generational trauma in my family and, unconsciously, I believe my passion for Psychology came from wanting to understand this more and how it affected my family, as well as myself.

Now having gained more knowledge of my families mental and emotional generational journey, I am inspired to play this role for others who want help doing the same.

If this sounds like something you would like to do with my help, you can contact me on the 'It's complicated' platform or via email at shannon.lee1996@hotmail.co.uk

My approach

In my practice, Feeling and Healing Psychotherapy, I use a bottom-up and top-down approach. What is a bottom-up approach? The bottom-up approach begins with information acquired from the body's sensations and accepts that feelings or even body sensations happen first. Which means you can learn to be OK with different previously unmanageable, uncomfortable feelings without you becoming overwhelmed. You can acquire skills to tolerate and respond to them without wanting to block or numb the discomfort.

The top-down approach focuses more on the conscious mind and its ability to shape and reframe thoughts and perspectives. These approaches aim to address trauma and PTSD by targeting the higher-level cognitive processes involved in perception, and interpretation. Engaging the conscious mind and promoting self-awareness and regulation, you can gain control over your symptoms and work towards healing and recovery.

What you will bring to therapy, is your expert perspective of your own life, your willingness, and an open mind to explore new areas of your life, psyche and new techniques and skills to go alongside this.

I will bring the theories and evidence based therapies such as, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and Explorative Therapy to help you understand what you want to explore in therapy.

We can combine Meditation, Systematic desensitization, Self-compassion, Cognitive Reframing, as well as other tools supported by expert research in the field of CBT.

Don't hesitate to get in touch today and start the conversation that could change the way you see the world around you and yourself!

Experience
2020-today Running a Private practice called 'Feeling and Healing Psychotherapy' Working online as a Psychotherapist independently has allowed me to gain experience with working with clients with different backgrounds and experiences. This includes working with people with major anxiety disorder to couples wanting to work on their relationships. Clients found me through using Freelance websites such as It’s complicated, Psychology Today, It’s complicated and more. Contact between us was mainly through videoconference, emails, and chat. This experience has helped me improve the important skills as a counsellor; being compassionate, being in tune with the clients and their needs and wants, being authentic and reliable, and building a trusting rapport with the client. 2020-2021 Counselling in training with Fernando Herrer. I had the pleasure of working with one of the most experienced and professional psychotherapists in the field of Acceptance and Commitment therapy. He taught me how to perform ACT sessions from start to finish. I have had extensive practice using these structured sessions in my own practice and have had regular successful results. 2020-2021 Counselling in training with Jose Olid. During this training, I would accompany Jose alongside other people in his sessions to learn from his technique. He also showed me commonly used techniques used in the Cognitive Behavioural Field to treat mostly anxiety and depression. 2020 Masters (MC) in 3rd Generational Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. 2019 Bachelors (Honours) in Psychology with The Open University.
