Conference Overview:

This year’s conference theme, “Rupture & Repair: The Practice of Psychotherapy in Disjointed Times,” aims to address the central role of rupture and repair in psychotherapy, both within the therapy room and within society at large. The therapeutic process often begins with a rupture—a disconnection, a breaking of trust, or an unspoken wound—and it is in the space of repair that deeper connection and transformation occur.

As psychotherapists, we work with the wounds of individuals, but we also must ask how we can use our therapeutic tools to engage with the fractures that divide our societies. At this year’s It’s Complicated Psychotherapy Conference in Berlin, we will collectively explore these questions, drawing on therapeutic methods of rupture and repair to not only heal individuals but to engage with and mend societal disjunctions.

Themes of Interest:

We invite submissions that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Clinical Practice: How do we navigate rupture and repair within the therapeutic alliance? What interventions are effective in working through relational fractures with clients?
  • Collective Healing: How can therapeutic ideas, traditionally focused on the individual, be expanded to address the collective? What is the role of therapy in communities impacted by historical trauma or societal upheaval?
  • Artistic Expressions: How can we use art, music, and creative forms to explore and express rupture and repair in both the personal and collective spheres?
  • Body-Mind Approaches: Exploring somatic practices that help restore psychological equilibrium and healing both inside and outside the therapy room.
  • The Ethical Imperative: How do we engage in repair as an ethical responsibility in the face of contemporary societal divisions, digital dissociation, and global crises?
