Six years ago, I moved from Mexico to Berlin with my dog to study a master’s degree in Clinical psychology. As a Mexican with French roots, I have always been curious about the complex process in which humans develop a clear and unique perspective about themselves and their identity.
As you and other 881,000 voluntary and involuntary migrants in Berlin, the ups and downs of my adaptation to Germany has left some marks and jewels in my emotional garden. Even though the theory from a postgraduate program was undoubtably valuable for my work as a counselor, I believe I have learnt more about human nature by mindfully experiencing mundane acts of life like cooking with friends, watching movies, playing volleyball, reading books, observing animals, and having the occasional discussion with critical German strangers.
