As a psychodynamic approach, this form of therapy focuses on working through unconscious thought patterns and conflicts. The unconscious influences all our behaviors and emotions—we only see the results of the hidden processes unfolding within us. Over time, certain patterns take shape, guiding us through life. When everything runs smoothly, that’s wonderful. But when things become difficult, we start stumbling over the manifestations of our unconscious.
With the help of psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy, such unconscious patterns can be identified and worked through, while past experiences can be integrated. This process can lead to an improved or deepened sense of self, which, in turn, may positively impact psychological well-being and the quality of interpersonal relationships.
The therapeutic space is about learning to understand your own life, making it tangible and open to change. Psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy is not a miracle cure, but it is an effective approach that can enable profound and lasting changes toward a more fulfilling life.
In many cases, the changes brought about by therapy are subtle, gradually integrating into everyday life almost unnoticed. However, the process can also go much further—making psychoanalytically oriented therapy a venture that carries the possibility of profound transformations, even radical breaks.
For me, the psychoanalytic approach holds the potential for a shift that can reorganize one’s relationship with others, with things, and with one’s own existence.
I offer sessions in both German and English, either in person in Vienna or online if you live elsewhere.
