I'm a South Asian psychologist who believes therapy works best when it aligns with your culture. My practice centers cultural identity, immigrant experience, and the background that shapes who you are.
I'm a psychologist early in my career, and I bring to this work something that can't be taught in graduate school: my own experience as an immigrant and third culture kid. I know what it feels like to navigate a new culture while holding onto the one you came from. Having lived in many different countries, that experience shapes everything about how I show up for my clients.
I work with clients who are seeking a therapist that understands and works with their cultural background. Whether you're navigating anxiety, loneliness, the stress of being away from home, or just want a safe space where you don't have to explain yourself, I'd love to work with you.
I'm also taking pro-bono clients from war affected regions. Please reach out to me via aliza.faruqui@gmail.com
I don't believe therapy is one size fits all. It's a deeply personal process and I make sure my work reflects that. My approach is rooted in the belief that you can't separate a person from their context. I don't treat culture, family, or identity as background, they are central to understanding who you are and what you need.
In our work together, I take the time to understand where you come from: the values you were raised with, and how those values may be shifting or clashing with the life you're building now. I blend this with CBT.
As someone building my practice, I bring genuine curiosity, humility, and a real commitment to understanding you, but I will also challenge you to face your own discomfort.
