About me

Psychologist and educator; internationally trained and experienced—having enjoyed helping clients in Europe, Africa, and Australia—adults, children & youth. I'm a warm and easy-going personality. But I maintain a high standard of professionalism and a focus on human dignity. I overcame 2 big issues as a young adult (before I was a qualified psychologist): - being extremely shy, and - an addiction to computer games I'm still an introvert, but I'm easy to talk to. I still loves games, but I keep a healthy balanced lifestyle I enjoy reading about history, hiking in deepest nature, and the loving presence of dogs

My approach

Dignity & Connection: I strongly believe your dignity must be upheld. Stigma only fuels the pain. Diagnoses are not life-long curses. As per the scientific evidence, I prioritise the therapist-client relationship. Neuroscience: Although I'm no longer active in research labs, I still love keeping up-to-date with neuropsychology. Clients often find it useful to see the connections I make to evolutionary neuroscience. Culture & Judgement Free: My university education was in the West—fundamentally empirical science following the medical model. But I add to this the learnings from my travels and work through 100+ cultures—my life mission to expand my perspective. What I offer is a counsel free of prejudice or assumptions, centering on deeper universal values (see "Philosophical Augmentations", below) Philosophical Augmentations: I include certain non-Western perspectives that seem absent in traditional psychology and medicine, such as moving meditation, "wu-wei" (flow) from the Dao, Banta ubuntu (inter-connectedness of individuals), memento mori (contemplation of death) and Hegelian dialectics (non-adversarial opposites). Psychology Schools: I've trained and worked in: Roger's style client-centred therapy, DBT, CBT, Yalom-based group therapy, mindfulness training, hypnotherapy, art therapy and Schema therapy. In practice, I only use what's useful. Every client is unique.
