Hi! I'm Maria, I'm a Portuguese therapist, and I also speak English fluently. I'm very passionate about what I do, I love meeting new people and helping them move towards a happier and more fulfilled future.
I'm 30 years old and I'm from Lisbon, Portugal. I am a clinical and health psychologist, graduated with a masters degree from Universidade Europeia Lisbon. My main specialties are in grief and loss intervention, and LGBTQI+ matters. I'm also experienced in helping with anxiety and depression, assertiveness, boundary setting and co-dependency, among other issues. My main goal is to alleviate suffering and help people regain balance, improving their quality of life. In the long term, I seek to strengthen my patients' resilience, self-esteem and self-love, helping them take control of their lives and achieve their goals and dreams.
I follow an integrative approach, mainly combining a humanistic perspective with tools from cognitive-behavioral therapy and other evidence based therapies to help the people I work with regain balance and achieve their goals. I am very empathetic, calm and patient, and directive and motivational when needed. I believe that feelings need to be acknowledged, felt and learned from, as guides to move forward. Aware of the importance of the therapeutic relationship, I dedicate myself to building a bond of trust and understanding, where patients feel comfortable and at ease.
I did over two years in supervised internships, working with children, teenagers and adults, and I currently work as an online therapist and clinical psychologist with adults of all ages, dealing with a wide array of issues.
I have a masters degree in Clinical and Health Psychology, and am registered with the Portuguese board of psychologists. During and after my academic years, I completed a number of courses, long and short form, in areas such as grief intervention, gender and sexuality, domestic violence, CBT, integrative psychology, family dynamics, among others. I am constantly learning, and I make sure I study the areas I'm working through with my patients during our work together, to make sure I'm following the latest research on the matter. I'm very flexible with my approach and adaptable to every new person.
