About me

Hi there! I'm Brittany Carroll. I am an English-speaking psychological therapist based in the Netherlands. I provide in-person and/or online grief and loss therapy for adults in the Netherlands, including expats and internationals. I provide weekly or biweekly individual therapy for adults who have experienced grief from either a loss of a partner, parent, child, pet, or loved one, a sudden or traumatic death, complicated or long-lasting grief, separation, divorce, or relationship loss, life transitions and identity loss, and/or expat grief. Many of my clients are those who felt they were drowning alone in their grief and pain - even when surrounded by people. Personally, I know exactly how this feels. Together, we can create a space where you can: -Process the pain of your loss safely. -Understand the emotional waves of grief. -Explore guilt, anger, or unanswered questions. -Learn how grief lives in both mind and body. -Rebuild your sense of identity and connection to life. My therapeutic approach is not about quick fixes or surface-level strategies. It's about learning how to carry your grief in a way that allows your life to continue, and in understanding even the darkest of your emotions through depth, meaning, and self-compassion. Grief therapy can help you- -Feel less alone in your experiences. -Reduce the feeling of being stuck in your grief. -Make sense of your intense or conflicting emotions. -Reconnect with daily life at your own rhythm. -Heal without forgetting your loss. -Find moments of steadiness and meaning again. You won’t be told to just "get over" your grief or to "just think positive." You’ll be met with skilled care, insight, compassion, and a deep respect and understanding for the pain you’ve been carrying. This therapeutic space is for your grief to be witnessed, held, and gently integrated into this new version of your life. I understand it’s scary to face your grief, but when you’re ready to do so, you won’t be alone. Check out my website to read more information on me and my approach at www.blueserenity-therapy.nl.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
CBT: Cognitive behavioral therapyRecommended for those looking for practical support and accountability to change unhelpful thinking and behaviors.
DBT: Dialectical Behavior Therapy Recommended for those who want to learn skills to manage intense emotions and improve their relationships, especially if they feel easily overwhelmed.
Trauma Informed CareRecommended for those who have experienced trauma and need a safe, supportive space to heal at their own pace.
My approach to therapy is holistic and emotion-focused, rooted in the belief that everyone's unique story matters. I strive to create a safe, steady, and nonjudgemental space where you can safely explore your grief and pain. I deeply respect your right to make choices that fit your values and vision for your life. After all, I may be an expert in therapy, but only you are an expert in yourself! I use a combination of trauma-informed therapeutic modalities in my practice including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and I am also further studying Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and am undergoing further trainings to better understand the grief process. If you feel something stir reading this - a recognition, a pull - I invite you to reach out. You don't have to keep doing it all alone.

Experience

9 months at It's Complicated
Before moving to the Netherlands, I worked as an ABA therapist with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disorders. This experience gave me a first-hand account of how real families live everyday; parents caring for the kids, struggling to stay afloat, and maybe forgetting themselves in return. I helped these families manage the struggles they faced daily with evidence-based behavior modifications, and, most importantly, a compassionate listening ear. I also have experience volunteering at local pregnancy shelters for expectant mothers needing some extra love and practical support.

Education

Obtaining my bachelor's in psychological counselling in the USA, I went on to earn my master's in psychological counselling at Webster University in Leiden. During my master's program, I had an internship opportunity where I practiced my therapeutic skills with clients living around the world, amassing over 300 hours of supervised direct client contact. The clients I worked with carried a variety of struggles ranging from grief and anxiety to drug addiction and sexual abuse.
