About me

My name is Panayiota, and I am a mental health counselor (counseling psychologist). I offer counseling to support individuals in moving forward on their own unique paths, because there is no single way that is right for everyone. In therapy, we work together toward your goals, at your pace, in a space where you are met with understanding, empathy, and respect.

I was born and raised in Limassol, Cyprus, a small island in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. In 2022, I moved to the Netherlands to pursue my master’s degree in counseling psychology at Webster Leiden University, and I’ve since made it my home.

In our first session, which is offered free of charge, I guide clients through a clinical intake form. This helps us create a clear and holistic picture of who they are, their life experiences, and their relationships with other people. From there, we begin identifying the goals they wish to work on in therapy.

While we may start with specific objectives, my practice is open and flexible. Clients are warmly encouraged to bring in any topics they wish to explore, whether connected to the intake or simply what’s present in their lives at the moment. This is a space where all thoughts, feelings, and experiences are welcome.

I understand well the complexities of the immigrant and expat experience. Like many people, I know what it means to face difficult decisions and uncertainty, to struggle, but also to grow. I believe deeply in human resilience and in our capacity to change, especially when we are given a safe space to explore ourselves with honesty and care.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
CounsellingRecommended for those who want to talk through their emotional challenges with a professional in a safe, supportive environment.
Humanistic psychologyRecommended for those looking for a therapy that emphasizes personal growth and self-fulfillment, focusing on becoming your best self in a positive, non-judgmental space.
Person-centered approachRecommended for those looking for a supportive, non-judgmental space where they can lead the conversation and explore their feelings at their own pace.
Our counseling sessions will be tailored to your individual needs and preferences. Together, we’ll explore approaches and methods that feel right for you and address the challenges and goals you bring to therapy.

My approach is client-centered, which means that your voice, your experiences, and your goals are at the core of our work. While we may reflect on your personal history to better understand your present, our focus is on moving forward in a way that aligns with your values and supports your personal growth. Above all, I view therapy as a collaborative process. We work together to build the tools, insight, and resilience needed to navigate difficulties and move toward a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Another central part of our work will involve exploring your emotional world. Emotions shape how we relate to ourselves, connect with others, and make choices. By becoming more aware of your emotional experiences, you’ll begin to better understand, process, and sit with even the most challenging feelings. This emotional insight is a powerful way toward emotional regulation, deeper self-understanding, and a stronger sense of well-being.

Experience

My clinical experience includes working with individuals between the ages of 18 and 65, addressing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges.
These include depression, anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, anger management, grief and bereavement, loneliness and social isolation, low self-esteem, lack of motivation, non-suicidal self-injury, and interpersonal relationship difficulties.
In addition, I have had the opportunity to work with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. These experiences have deepened my multicultural awareness and sensitivity, and continue to guide me in offering culturally responsive and inclusive support to every client I work with.

Education

I hold a master’s degree (MA) in Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling Psychology from Webster Leiden Campus in the Netherlands. Before that, I completed my bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Cyprus.

I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend workshops, trainings, and seminars to stay informed about a variety of therapeutic approaches. This allows me to continue growing as a mental health counselor and to offer my clients up-to-date support tailored to their needs.
