About me

Growing up and training as a clinical psychologist in South Africa - a country rich with vibrant cultures, diversity and complexity - has given me an appreciation of the multifaceted and complicated lives we lead. Living and working as an ex-pat in the Netherlands has added to my appreciation of how we are all trying to find and lead rich and meaningful lives, but this is a difficult task. In this journey, it can be helpful to have another mind to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences with you so that you have a clearer sense of why you do what you do, and why you are who you are. This type of insight deepens meaning and informs ongoing transformation in a lasting way. Alongside working as a psychologist, I am also psychoanalytic researcher, and have published in the area of intersection between technology, selfhood and psychodynamics. I hold a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology, as well as a Doctorate in Psychology, both attained through the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. I work in-person in Amsterdam and Zaandam, as well as online. I can be contacted on the It's Complicated platform, via email at wendycain@protonmail.com or on +31682948955. All registered psychologists in the Netherlands are required to have a complaints procedure available on their websites. You can find more information about this procedure here: https://nip.nl/clienteninformatie/klachten/.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Psychodynamic therapyRecommended for those looking to explore their emotions deeply and understand how past experiences shape their present life.
Psychotherapy Recommended for those who want to work through emotional or mental health challenges by talking with a trained psychotherapist.
Trauma Informed CareRecommended for those who have experienced trauma and need a safe, supportive space to heal at their own pace.
I am a trained clinical psychologist from South Africa, now living and working in the Netherlands. I work psychoanalytically in my practice, an approach that prefaces understanding the present in the light of the past, and heralds self-understanding as the key to cultivating a more satisfying life. Working with me is often a medium to longer-term process (months to years), which allows for a gentle natural unfolding of the work.
