My name is Monica and I started my online practice as a psychologist in 2022. I was born in the US to Czech immigrants who then raised me mostly in the Czech Republic. In 2019, I moved to The Netherlands and settled in Amsterdam where I also teach yoga next to my psychology practice.
Throughout my life, I was lucky enough to live, study and work in different cultures and countries such as Mexico, France, Italy or Sri Lanka. Being an expat many times, I had to overcome a fair share of struggles to feel grounded, connected, and to find a sense of direction in my life. I also had to learn how to live (and effectively function) with an ADHD diagnosis. All of which has led me to a better understanding of some of the challenges my clients are experiencing.
I mainly work with the Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework, which is a mindfulness-based approach that aims to help individuals with accepting difficult emotions and thoughts while committing to actions aligned with their values.
I also use some of the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques that help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns that are negatively impacting their emotions & behaviors.
Finally, I use coaching techniques which can give your reflections the structure and guidance necessary to set and reach your goals. Together we will also evaluate potentially helpful lifestyle changes.
