For 15 years, I have been providing therapy to adolescents and adults in New York, San Francisco, and Amsterdam.
After years as a business consultant, I first began my studies as a therapist in 2011 in New York and along the way earned a PhD from UC-Berkeley as well as became a psychotherapist in the US. (In the Netherlands, I am considered a psychologist/NIP psycholoog). During this time, I've worked with a variety of people: from those living in a refugee camp to those in drug and alcohol rehabilitation and recovery to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as people experiencing anxiety, depression, dissatisfaction, and unfulfillment in their lives and relationships.
I have seen firsthand how stories lie at the heart of healing our trauma, rediscovering self-love, and connecting with others, in order to come back to our wholeness.
I regularly give lectures and trainings on self-care, mindfulness, and emotion awareness for therapists and nonprofits.
My approach is based on my experience as a clinician, researcher, meditator, and human. My style is one full of calm, deep listening, and humor. Life can be a lot. Holding space for you and life’s a-lot-ness is such a pleasure and honor. One that I take seriously while also knowing that our work together can be fun and full of alive-ness. I use a combination of techniques to help adults and adolescents explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while strengthening their intuition. Techniques combine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with mindfulness evidence-based practices, EMDR, heightened intuitive awareness, and a soulful approach to the human experience.
Our work together will focus extensively on understanding what's happening in your present, identifying patterns that you feel aren't working for you, and naming and understanding the emotions you’re experiencing in order to uncover what’s truly happening inside.
Navigating change can be hard. It is an honor to navigate this with you. Reach out via email (kelly@kellyziemer.com) or my website (www.kellyziemer.com) for an initial conversation. After we meet, ask yourself: is this a space where I may be seen and able to be have my needs and goals met? If yes, I welcome the opportunity to work together, and if not, I’ll work with you to find alternative resources.
