California Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 30 years of mental health experience. Specializing in gifted / neurodivergent, professional, expat adults and couples. Counseling online throughout Europe in English.
Moving to a new country has a way of exposing the cracks in systems that used to work.
If you are a high-performing adult — an academic, researcher, tech or other professional — you have likely spent your life relying on your intelligence, moments of deep focus, skills, and sheer effort to navigate high-demand environments. You may have always felt slightly different from those around you, but your intellect, attention to details, and problem-solving skills allowed you to manage fairly well.
Then you became an expat or immigrated to a new country.
When you add the daily friction of living in a new culture — bureaucratic complexity, language barriers, unfamiliar social norms, and the loss of local support networks — the mental energy required to navigate everyday life multiplies exponentialy. The strategies that once kept you floating can suddenly lead to severe exhaustion, executive function paralysis, or a quiet identity crisis.
You might not have a formal label for how your mind works. You might just recognize the lived reality of it, such as:
Masking: You spend significant energy adapting to rigid workplaces or social expectations, only to return home completely drained,
High-Capability with Executive Dysfunction: You can publish a research paper, code a complex program, or manage a high-stakes project, yet an administrative form or a trip to the prefecture causes seemingly illogical overwhelm,
The Cycle of Productivity & Burnout: You operate in bursts of intense focus followed by periods of deep depletion, often feeling like you are trying to drive with the parking brake on, and/or
A History of Feeling "Too Much" or "Different": You have always experienced the world intensely — whether through heightened sensitivity, deep curiosity, or a constant drive to analyze patterns — and often felt misunderstood as a result.
My mission is to offer a warm, grounded, and authentically collaborative space for neurodivergent internationals navigating the many bumps on their new road.
With a first master's degree in Public (Mental) Health and a second master's degree in Social Work, I bring 30 years of experience in mental health research, program design, and direct practice. Having navigated my own transition to Europe, I understand firsthand the emotional weight of building a life in a new place, grieving what you left behind, adapting without losing your core self, and managing the uncertainty of the future.
My practice is deeply and pro-actively affirming. I operate from a place of radical acceptance regarding neurodiversity, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, non-traditional relationship structures, and body size. I do not view you as something to be "fixed" or standardized. Instead, I help you focus on your strengths, to empower you as you are.
Clients describe me as deeply insightful, empathetic, humorous, easy-going, and nonjudgmental. Whether we are making sense of complex relational dynamics or of workplace burnout, I meet you with curiosity, respect, and zero pretense.
My work is non-pathologizing, collaborative, and tailored to the ways your mind naturally processes information, emotion, and stress. Rather than treating your characteristics as symptoms to be eliminated, we view them as data: indicators of how your nervous system interacts with your environment.
When life feels overwhelming, we do not focus on forcing you into standard productivity models or rigid behavior plans. Instead, we explore how your mind actually operates and build sustainable, personalized, virtual guiderails around it.
High-capability adults often rely on anxiety, perfectionism, or last-minute urgency as their primary engines for action. If that sounds like you:
We will examine your natural rhythms of focus, motivation, and energy to identify what is causing friction,
We will decouple your sense of self-worth from productivity and develop low-stress, tailored strategies for managing executive function, administrative tasks, and daily routines,
We will become aware of early signs of burnout and design practical boundaries to protect your energy in demanding work or academic environments.
When you have spent years adapting to environments that were not built for your processing style, hiding your true personality may have become second nature. In that case:
Using values-based models, we will explore who you are beneath the expectations of your career, family, and culture,
We will deconstruct the internal critic, addressing imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and any underlying fears that rest and relaxation will lead to failure,
We will cultivate self-compassion and emotional regulation, allowing you to navigate life with greater ease and less inner conflict.
Living abroad fundamentally alters your relationships - with partners, family back home, colleagues, and yourself. To help you feel less alone:
We will look at how you form and maintain connections, navigate conflict, and communicate your boundaries clearly,
I will provide an affirming space to navigate non-traditional relationship dynamics (i.e., ENM/CNM) or the complexities of modern dating as an international,
We can process the grief, loneliness, and identity shifts that accompany cross-cultural transitions, helping you establish friendships in your new location.
I envision our work together through a systemic and inclusive lens. Rather than adhering to a single, rigid technique or protocol, I draw from a broad range of evidence-informed and humanistic frameworks to fit your specific needs.
Values & Acceptance Models: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Humanistic & Existential Models, Positive Psychology,
Parts Work, Schemas & Self-Exploration: Schema Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) principles and psychoeducation to navigate competing internal drives and emotional overwhelm,
Relational & Attachment Models: Gottman Method, Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Attachment Theory,
Pattern Recognition & Skill Building: Adaptations of Dialectical (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) skills, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative frameworks.
