Psychologist Gül Babacan completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at Ankara Çankaya University which is based on the current American model of psychology, with instruction in English. During her education, she actively participated in volunteer projects, gaining experience working with diverse communities; and honed her clinical assessment skills through training in neuropsychological tests and personality assessment tools.
After starting her professional career in 2016, she worked for various years as a psychologist in non-governmental organizations that were implementing partners in projects with UNHCR, UNFPA, or EU partnerships. In this capacity, she worked with highly vulnerable individuals and at-risk groups in different regions, conducting psychological counseling, individual psychotherapy, psychosocial support programs, group work, workshops, field studies, and inter-institutional coordination. She also specialized in gender and gender-based violence, developing both individual and group-based interventions. Her experience in cross-cultural work and extensive trauma-focused field experience have enabled her to acquire broad expertise, particularly in the context of psychological processes related to disasters, war, violence, challenging life events, and migration.
Over the years, Gül Babacan has worked with clients from both Türkiye and other countries. During this time, in addition to various in-house trainings, she has strengthened her professional skills by completing numerous professional trainings in areas such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR Therapy, Family Counseling, Sexual Therapy, and Trauma Interventions.
After returning to Antalya in 2023, she worked for a while at a psychotherapy clinic with adult and adolescent clients; following this period, she continues to see clients at Güney Psychology and Family Counseling Center. She works with adult, couples/family, and adolescent clients in Turkish and English, both in person and online.
Besides psychology, She also interests in politics, literature, philosophy, art, and human and non-human animal rights.
