Native English-speaking counsellor in Guatemala. I work with clients living abroad who are experiencing challenges in their sense of self and identity, relationship struggles, stress, and adapting to change.
I’m a Tasmanian born Australian citizen and native English speaker living in Antigua, Guatemala. Having lived abroad for more than a decade, and navigated three relocations across and between countries, I’ve experienced first hand the complexities of starting afresh in a new place. I'm aware of the challenges that one faces as an expat/immigrant, and how emotionally complex this lifestyle can be even when you've chosen it for yourself.
My path here has been anything but linear. I lived and worked for nine years in Cambodia in international development and eventually built two of my own small businesses from the ground up. I know what it means to follow a calling, take risks and opportunities, and to start over. Now based in Guatemala, I support internationals living abroad including expats, digital nomads, immigrants, and globally mobile professionals.
In my personal history there has been relationship/attachment anxiety, entrepreneurship, career changes, and financial struggles. These life experiences and the mix of person-centered and acceptance and commitment therapy training I've had, all inform my therapeutic practice in working compassionately with clients.
My approach is collaborative and non-pathologising. I believe you are the expert on your own life, even if things feel confusing right now. Our work together is not about fixing you, but about reconnecting with your strengths, values, and sense of meaning.
Grief, stress, burnout, and self-worth are common issues my clients struggle with. Together, we build on your inner strengths to work towards clarity and a deeper sense of self.
In Australia I worked with seniors in group counselling navigating changes in their lifestyle as they adjust to older age. I also worked with clients experiencing bereavement, grief and loss, complex PTSD, and finding meaning in their lives.
Through tele-counselling I supported community members with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem.
Now I work online with adults who are living abroad, and who are experiencing challenges related to changes in their sense of self and identity, confidence, relationship challenges, cross cultural adaptation, and decision making.
Masters of Counselling from the University of Canberra in Australia, and a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Tasmania.
