I am a systemic psychotherapist, leaving in Athens Greece. But I started as a Forensic Psychologist and I worked in prisons for many years. Many of the problems that people in prison talked about were the same that we all face. The difference is, that in society we can actually do something about them and improve our lives. So I decided to train in psychotherapy in order to try and help people cope with the difficulties they encounter in their life and support them in making the changes they wish to make.
I believe that at any given moment we form part of a smaller or larder group (system), be it our family, school, our peers, collegues, etc. That system influences our toughts and our behaviours and therefore, in order to adrress the problems we face, we must view them as part of that greater system rather than as isolated events. This is the reason I chose a systemic approach to psychotherapy.
