What’s Happening Between Us Right Now?
One of my guiding philosophies in therapy is inspired by the work of Irvin Yalom, who believes that the relationship between therapist and client isn’t just a tool for the work—it is the work. This relationship serves as a living example of how you engage with others in your life.
Let me share how this might look in our sessions and your everyday life. I will use some interesting examples inspired by Yalom’s work. You may find yourself sitting quietly in a session, unsure of what to say next. In that case, I might say: “I notice you’ve been quiet for some time. I am wondering if there’s something you’re holding back". This kind of moment isn’t just about the silence— do you sit silently in other rooms too? What does that say about you? Does it reflect uncertainty, or how you connect with others outside the therapy room?
Using the here-and-now approach, we can assume that if certain patterns of behavior come up in therapy, such as seeking reassurance, holding back, or feeling unseen, they’re likely showing up elsewhere in your life too. By working through them together, you can build deeper, more fulfilling connections.
What can you expect from each session?
-Sessions 1–4: Building the Foundation
The first two to four sessions will be intake sessions, where we explore your current concerns and prior experiences as well as how (and if) I can help you.
-Sessions 5–10: Deepening Our Connection
We’ll focus on understanding your concerns more thoroughly and working on them.
Selection Criteria
1. You are able to meet once per week. Regular, consistent sessions tend to support greater progress. If financial concerns are a barrier, fee reductions may be available.
2. I do not have the resources to help clients who experience suicidal thoughts, self-harm, psychosis or addiction.
