I’m an online counsellor specialising in supporting people struggling with compulsive behaviours, addiction, and patterns that feel difficult to control
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, holding a Postgraduate Qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Cumbria. Before establishing my private practice, I worked as a counsellor in colleges and recovery centres. I currently provide counselling for Red Rose Recovery, Kendal College, and Physicians Anonymous—a peer-support network for doctors facing burnout, stress, and related challenges. I began my career as a mental health worker, supporting people from diverse backgrounds through challenges such as stress, emotional distress, and life transitions. I’ve also worked as a Religious Education teacher and in corporate settings, where I developed a strong interest in meaning, relationships, and personal development.
I am particularly interested in the Motivational Interviewing approach, which supports clients in recognising the disparity between where they are currently and where they would like to be. By gently exploring this discrepancy, the client and counsellor can work collaboratively to identify meaningful and realistic ways of bridging the gap between present difficulties and desired change.
I have practised mindfulness for over thirty years and hold a deep interest in how spirituality can support recovery and emotional wellbeing.
Feeling stuck in a loop you can’t break out of? I offer counselling for individuals struggling with compulsive behaviours. Whether it's substances, alcohol, pornography, work, or other patterns that feel out of control. I provide a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore what’s happening and begin the process of change.
Many repetitive patterns, whether with substances or behaviours, can be tied to shame, low self-worth, or difficulties in relationships. Because these experiences are often connected, I also support people who are facing stress, anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, or major life transitions.
Addiction and compulsive patterns are not a weakness – they are signals that something deeper needs attention. Compulsive behaviours often develop as a way of coping with stress, numbness, or emotional pain, even if they end up causing more harm than relief. Together, we’ll explore your patterns, underlying emotions, and find practical ways to support change and growth.
Why me? Because I’ve faced these struggles too, I understand what it feels like to be stuck—and that change is possible. My work blends lived experience with professional training. These experiences give me a certain insight and compassion for people who struggle with behaviours that can be hard to understand and may sometimes feel mysterious or paradoxical.
If any of this resonates with you, I’d be very happy to offer an initial conversation so you can see whether working together feels right.
