About me

Clinical Psychologists adopt a “scientist-practitioner” approach, meaning that our work is informed by empirical research. I believe in the potential in all of us to adapt and evolve. Sometimes this involves learning new skills, and sometimes this is a matter of processing difficult events. Therapy is a creative endeavour which can be challenging, but also fun! My vocational training and post-training employment involved working in various healthcare settings (including acute psychiatry, outpatient psychiatry, primary care psychology, child and adolescent psychiatric services, early intervention for toddlers with developmental disabilities and their families, and school and residential services for adolescents and adults with intellectual disability). From my background in acute healthcare, research and teaching, I aspire to support individuals find their own personal best-fit therapeutic approach as a means to creating positive and meaningful, longterm change in their lives and relationships.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
ACT: Acceptance and Commitment TherapyRecommended for those who want to stop fighting negative thoughts and learn how to live with more acceptance and focus on what really matters in life.
CBT: Cognitive behavioral therapyRecommended for those looking for practical support and accountability to change unhelpful thinking and behaviors.
Schema therapyRecommended for those who want to break out of negative patterns or "schemas" that they developed early in life and keep repeating.
My approach to psychological intervention is integrative, meaning that I draw from a range of schools of thought. I have formal training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and third-wave variants thereof, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), schema therapy and mindfulness. I have a particular interest in process work, which draws on observations of patterns you and I may share on your day-to-day experiences and behaviours (including within the session). Lastly, I am a firm believer that knowledge is power, so psychoeducation is a hallmark of my work as and when needed in the context of working with the topics individuals bring into the therapy room.
