What I like most about being a therapist is seeing clients gain skills in working with and around emotional blocks and beliefs about themselves which are no longer useful to them. Seeing clients change in ways they never believed possible. I have witnessed clients heal from traumas such as sexual abuse and go on to make powerful positive changes in their relationships with themselves; friends, families and careers. In session we will work hard together to remove the internal cycle of shame and blame that gets in the way of you accepting and respecting yourself for the capable adult that you have become but may just not yet realize.
I have 11 years experience working as a therapist in both community mental health & private practice, and with diverse populations throughout California. I have been a lifelong advocate for members of the LGBTQI population & am pleased to be able to support this/my community as a therapist.
After completing my masters degree in counseling psychology in 2013 I embarked on completing over 3000 intern hours with diverse populations including; Children and young adults, families with children and youth on the Autism spectrum and adults healing from trauma.
I work with the LGBTQI community to heal from the wounds resulting from the harm that stereo types and a lack of acceptance from the cisgendered, heteronormative society can bring. I offer a safe queer positive environment for both cisgender and non-binary members of the LGBTQI community.
In sessions we can work together with tools such as mindfulness to aide in managing stress as well as; strategizing how to prioritize self and self-care through work/life balance practices to better maintain longevity in demanding healthcare field.
Using IFS ( Internal Family Systems); I work with male survivors of sexual abuse and trauma whom are seeking to reclaim their sense of self; self advocacy and to reclaim control over their lives and to learn coping skills to outgrow and move beyond the trauma of the abuse.
Let’s work together in session to identify what triggers of your anxiety and the feelings that come with the fear to help you and your body learn that you can experience anxiety and gain skills to calm back down.
One of my favorite ways to practice this in and outside of sessions is with mindfulness practices that not only engage the mind but both the mind and body simultaneously. We can “work out” your neurology the same way we would train muscles in the gym, to be stronger and more resilient through practice and exercise.
