I’m Nina, a Berlin-based humanist spiritual caregiver originally from Amsterdam.
As a humanist counselor and spiritual caregiver, I guide clients through spiritual, ethical, and meaning-making questions.
In my practice I support individuals navigating questions of life and meaning, experiences of loss, and the impact of injustice. My approach is warm, socio-politically engaged and focussed on navigating questions of meaning.
During my psychology studies, I realized that some of my deeper questions remained unanswered. While I learned to analyze human behavior, I continued searching for ways to explore the existential questions I had about life. Questions like: How do we navigate grief, different life-phases, illness, or the meaning of friendship? What makes life worthwhile or how do we relate to societal issues?
When I discovered the profession of humanist chaplaincy, I felt deeply inspired and passionate about finding a way to offer counseling that explores the deeper spiritual, ethical, and meaning-making questions we are confronted with. I believe that counseling is a space for self-exploration and liberation, as much as it is a place for empowerment and resistance.
During my work, I have supported people through experiences of grief, trauma, depression, low self-esteem, migration, (sexual) violence, identity questions, anxiety and lack of meaning. Exploring ourselves through multiple dimensions—our lived experience, and the social, spiritual, existential, political, and cultural contexts we inhabit—can help us navigate the complex questions that arise from being human.
In my practice it is my aim to make people feel seen, safe, and empowered. This includes a good portion of humor, open mindedness and unconditional acceptance.
