Let's untangle your stories together!
I am a multilingual psychologist and therapist originally from the Czech Republic. Shortly after graduating from university, I moved to the Netherlands, where I spent about two years. My journey then took me to the United Arab Emirates, where my two children were born. After five years there, we have returned to the Netherlands, ready to embrace whatever comes next.
Living in different countries and starting over more than once hasn’t always been easy, but these experiences have profoundly deepened my intercultural awareness and social sensitivity. I believe these qualities are essential in my work, allowing me to connect with and support others on a deeper level.
I have a particular interest in trauma, grief, and loss. Many people think trauma must come from a significant event like a car accident or natural disaster. However, trauma is not defined by the event itself but by how it is experienced. What feels traumatic to one person may not affect another. If you feel the need to untangle some of your own stories, I would love to help you on that journey.
If you would like to work with me at different times than those displayed on my calendar, you can always contact me at haffmans.therapy@gmail.com, and I'll see what I can do.
I’m in training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is all about working together to help you reach your goals. CBT is a structured and practical approach that focuses on the present, but that doesn’t mean your past isn’t important. In fact, our past often influences how we feel and act now. While we can’t change the past, we can work on creating positive changes in the present.
I also like to incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into my practice. ACT is about learning to accept what’s out of our control while committing to actions that bring meaning and fulfillment to our lives. It’s a gentle approach that helps you stop struggling with your thoughts and feelings and instead focus on what truly matters to you.
We’ll set goals together and regularly check in on your progress so you can start feeling better as soon as possible. I’ll also provide you with tools and exercises to practice between sessions. Over time, you’ll build up a set of skills you can rely on independently. My goal is to help you live the life you truly want.
I believe in the power of the connection we’ll build together. My aim is to create a warm and safe space where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. I approach everyone I work with kindness and respect, recognizing that each person is unique. Together, we’ll find the best ways to tackle whatever challenges you’re facing so you can feel more at peace and true to who you are.
