I offer a supportive and accepting space for you to explore yourself and your needs, and grow as a person. I'm a humanistic counsellor trained in multiple modalities. You can message here or at therapy@mauricepigaht.com.
I believe that therapy can be a way to help us know ourselves better and empower us to make choices about who we want to be. I trained as a therapist in my early forties after a career in development aid and project management. My passion is to support people in finding connection, understanding, happiness and growth in whatever way makes sense for them. In this, I mainly use humanistic approaches to therapy, which for me means embracing the fact that each of us is fundamentally unique in our perspectives, needs, and ways of understanding the world. I'm also trained in relationship counselling - whether romantic, familial or friendships - and I see these as essential to our wellbeing. I welcome people of all identities and lifestyles, including LGBTQ+ and polyamorous people.
Therapy can be an important part of your personal journey. Whether you’re looking to cope with difficult feelings, overcome a crisis, work on your relationships or set yourself new goals, therapy can offer you a space in which to explore yourself, heal, and maybe change.
In my practice, whether we meet online or in person in Brighton, my focus is on creating a safe and welcoming environment where you can explore what’s on your mind at your own pace and in line with your own priorities.
I work with clients on anxiety, depression, relationship issues, coping with loss, living with neurodiversity, such as ADHD, or navigating queer experiences. I’d offer you the chance to address your unique challenges, no matter how big or small they may feel.
You can come to me alone, or if you want to work on a particular relationship, you might come with a partner, family member, or friend. Relationships are so important to our happiness and well-being, and yet are often challenging and confusing. I see relationship counselling as helping facilitate better communication and understanding, so everyone can be heard and understood, and hopefully find ways to get their needs met. I also work with non-monogamous relationships and kink dynamics, which sometimes present with their own unique challenges and needs.
Most of my work is in the form of talking therapy – us having a conversation. But I also like to introduce more creative techniques, such as using objects to map out thoughts, drawing, role play or embodied work. I will adjust how I work with what works for you and suits your way of seeing the world.
