I'm a psychotherapist and university lecturer, currently working online. I specialise in Schema Therapy, Experiential Psychotherapy and Jungian Psychology. I offer psychotherapy sessions in both English and Spanish.
I’m Facundo Illobre, a psychologist, psychotherapist, and university lecturer with many years of experience in both the study and practice of psychotherapy. I’m originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I’m currently based in the UK, where I am completing my PhD.
My main clinical approach is Schema Therapy, in which I trained with Dr Jeffrey Young and Wendy Behary at the Schema Therapy Institute in New York / New Jersey. I also work with experiential approaches, and I have trained in the integration of methods such as Accelerated Experiential-Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Coherence Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) with Dr Tori Olds.
Alongside this, I have been deeply interested in Jungian psychology for over ten years. I completed a Master’s degree in Jungian Studies at the University of Essex, and I continue to draw on Jungian ideas in my work, particularly when exploring questions of meaning, symbolism, and deeper aspects of the self. I also have a longstanding personal and professional interest in spiritual traditions, especially Buddhism.
In addition to my clinical work, I have a strong commitment to teaching and research. I have worked as a university lecturer in Buenos Aires for several years, and I am currently pursuing my PhD at the University of Essex, UK.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds, supporting them with difficulties such as anxiety, addiction, depression, relationship problems, long-standing emotional patterns, and existential concerns.

My therapeutic approach is strongly experiential. I believe that therapy has become too one-sided, focusing mainly on our intellectual side. While intellectual insight into our problems is highly important, it is often insufficient to produce profound change.
In practical terms, experiential psychotherapy means that rather than simply talking about our difficulties, we use our time together to help you come into direct contact with them. I believe that it is through this direct and intimate engagement with our inner experience that change can begin to occur. In these moments, we can bring our wisest and most grounded adult resources into a direct and compassionate relationship with the parts of us that need attention and healing.
My primary therapeutic framework is Schema Therapy. Schema Therapy is an integrative, primarily experiential therapeutic modality that focuses on transforming long-standing life patterns typically acquired in childhood and adolescence. These deep emotional beliefs, or schemas, profoundly shape the way we view ourselves, our relationships with others, and the world. Many symptoms—such as anxiety, addiction, depression, compulsions, or a pervasive sense of emptiness—emerge as responses to this underlying emotional pain.
I further complement the experiential dimension of Schema Therapy with a carefully considered integration of elements from other fully experiential approaches, such as Accelerated Experiential-Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Coherence Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). This thoughtful integration allows me to refine and deepen the experiential foundations that are already central to Schema Therapy.
My main areas of expertise include anxiety; addictions (particularly sex addiction); borderline personality disorder; low self-esteem and shame; attachment-related difficulties; trauma; and relationship issues, among others.
Through the combination of these approaches, we will aim to understand and transform these long-standing patterns at their roots. My ultimate goal is to offer a safe and containing therapeutic space that respects your unique needs and pace, while providing the opportunity for deeper self-understanding and for making the necessary changes that can lead to a more meaningful life
The therapy process begins with a free 30-minute meeting, where we’ll have the chance to get to know each other and discuss the possibility of working together. Feel free to reach out by sending me a message through this platform. You can also find other ways to contact me on my website. I’d be happy to meet with you.
