About me
I'm Facundo Illobre, a psychologist, psychotherapist, and university lecturer with extensive experience in the study and practice of psychotherapy. I’m originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, but I’m now based in the UK, where I’m doing my PhD.
My expertise lies in Schema Therapy, where I received training under Dr. Jeffrey Young and Wendy Behary at the Schema Therapy Institute in New York/New Jersey. Additionally, I specialized in Jungian psychology at the University of Essex in England, studying under internationally renowned academics.
In addition to my clinical practice, I am deeply committed to teaching and research. I have served as a university lecturer in Buenos Aires, Argentina for many years and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Essex.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, supporting them through a wide range of psychological challenges—including anxiety, addiction, depression, personality disorders, interpersonal difficulties, and existential concerns, among others.

I don't believe in miraculous or spontaneous cures. For me, therapeutic progress occurs when we consciously and courageously confront the shadows and lights in our lives. Ultimately, I aim for the therapy process to provide a safe space where my patients can gain deeper self-knowledge and make the necessary changes to live a meaningful life.
While my clinical practice is primarily rooted in Schema Therapy, it is deeply informed by the work of Carl Gustav Jung.
Schema Therapy is an integrative model that considers us as holistic beings, addressing our intellectual, emotional, behavioural, and interpersonal dimensions. It is the most effective tool I've encountered for overcoming the lingering impact of our past on our present lives. Schema Therapy doesn't just aim to alter our thoughts and behaviours; it seeks to catalyze profound changes in how we feel about ourselves, others, and the world. I’ve been also deeply interested in Jungian psychology for over a decade, and I find Jung’s concepts and insights profoundly valuable for understanding the human psyche. That said, I’m not a formally trained Jungian analyst, and my therapeutic approach doesn’t follow a classical Jungian style. Instead, I draw on Jung’s ideas as a guiding compass in my work, aiming to reach similar therapeutic goals—though through approaches I find to be more pragmatic and clinically effective.
Additionally, my practice integrates insights from existential and humanistic psychology, along with wisdom drawn from spiritual traditions and contemplative practices, particularly from Buddhism.
