My approach is grounded primarily in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), an evidence-based, emotion-focused therapy that helps people understand and work through emotional blocks that contribute to anxiety, depression, somatic symptoms, and relationship difficulties. ISTDP focuses on identifying patterns of emotional avoidance and helping clients experience emotions safely and directly, rather than suppressing or intellectualising them.
In sessions, I work actively and collaboratively, paying close attention to emotional responses as they arise in the present moment—both in thoughts and in the body. Together, we explore what feelings may be emerging, what defenses may be getting in the way, and how these patterns developed in response to earlier experiences. The pace of the work is always adjusted to the client’s capacity, with careful attention to emotional safety and regulation.
My role is to be emotionally present, transparent, and engaged, offering both support and gentle challenge when appropriate. Sessions may feel focused and experiential, with an emphasis on increasing emotional awareness, reducing internal conflict, and fostering more authentic self-expression. The aim is lasting change through greater emotional clarity, resilience, and a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s relationships.
