UK-trained psychotherapist with 30+ years’ experience. I work with English-speaking adults who may function well outwardly but feel anxious, exhausted, disconnected or caught in recurring relationship patterns.
People often come to me because life is broadly working, but they aren't.
They may be capable, responsible and successful in their professional lives, yet increasingly anxious, exhausted or disconnected. Relationships keep breaking down in familiar ways. They find themselves carrying too much for other people, unable to switch off, or understanding perfectly well why they behave as they do without being able to change it.
Living abroad can intensify this. The structures and relationships that once gave us a sense of who we are may no longer be there, while the demands of work, partnership and family continue. What first looks like stress, burnout, anxiety or relationship difficulty can sometimes be part of a much older pattern.
I am a UK-trained psychotherapist with more than three decades of clinical experience. My background is in attachment, developmental and relational psychotherapy, family systems and trauma. I work particularly with people whose early relationships taught them to adapt strongly to others — to cope, perform, caretake or remain vigilant — and who are beginning to discover the cost of doing so.
Therapy with me is conversational and collaborative. I don't sit silently while you do all the work, and I don't apply a formula. We look carefully at what is happening now, the patterns that keep repeating, where they came from and what happens between us in the room.
My work is entirely online, including with English-speaking clients living in Düsseldorf and elsewhere internationally.
My approach is primarily relational, developmental and attachment-focused.
We are interested not only in what you are feeling, but in the pattern beneath it. Anxiety, depression, exhaustion, difficulty with closeness, over-responsibility or repeatedly ending up in the same kind of relationship often make more sense when we understand what a person originally had to adapt to.
That doesn't mean spending therapy endlessly reconstructing childhood. We work with the past where it helps us understand the present, and with what is happening in your life and relationships now.
I pay attention to emotional and bodily experience as well as thought and narrative. I also pay close attention to what happens between us, because patterns that are difficult to see elsewhere often become visible in the therapeutic relationship.
I draw from more than three decades of psychotherapeutic practice rather than working from a single technique. My aim is not simply to help you manage symptoms better, but to understand what keeps producing them so that you have more freedom in how you live and relate.
