My therapeutic approach is rooted in the understanding that our reactions to life – our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions – are natural, logical responses to the system we are a part of. Our current self is shaped by a myriad of influences—our genetics, upbringing, relationships, and the experiences that have molded us over time. This perspective allows us to explore the symptoms or problems we present, the systems that foster them, and our relationship to them.
Depending on the needs of my clients, we may support our talk therapy process with EMDR, or solely focus on EMDR sessions. EMDR is a trauma-informed psychotherapy approach designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.
In therapy, we often find ourselves in conflict with parts of ourselves—frustrated, angry, or disappointed with aspects we wish to change. I work with my clients to inject curiosity, understanding, and compassion into these internal dynamics. By getting to know these parts better, we open up the possibility of change, allowing for a deeper breath, a different movement, or a subtle shift, as we move out of cycles in our lives that no longer serve us.
The theoretical foundations of my therapy practice rest on Systemic Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Approaches and Polyvagal Theory. I have completed over four-hundred hours in coursework and supervision in these approaches, and continue to seek training to better serve my clients.
