I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I have lived abroad for ten years, and I work with expat and military communities to provide mental health support.
After completing my undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Human Relations and Spirituality, at the University of Ottawa (Canada), I was intent on continuing my exploration of human nature and connection to self and others.
I had the opportunity to move abroad to Germany, and what I thought was only going to be 1-2 years, has now turned in to 10+ years. I continued my education, attaining a Professional Addiction Studies Certificate, Psychodynamic Couples Counselling Certificate, and eventually my Master's in Counselling Psychology. I am continuing to pursue qualifications as an ADHD Clinical Services Provider, and EFT provider.
On the personal side, I have navigating the unique challenges of moving abroad, including integrating to a new culture, learning a new language, and rediscovering who I am in this new landscape. The last 10 years have been busy, I've had 3 daughters, travelled extensively, and completed my post-graduate education during this time.
Coming from Canada to Germany, I have learned to love and appreciate the walking/biking lifestyle, a good espresso, sparkling water, European wine, and the art of slowing down on Sundays. Although, with my combination of North American conditioning and ADHD, I find it difficult to truly slow down during the other weekdays, (it's a work in progress).
As a counsellor, I work from an integrative, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed approach. This entails utilizing different theoretical approaches and techniques that best suit my client’s specific needs. I believe in a holistic approach to counselling, taking into account the mind, body, and spirit. This approach seeks to treat the entire individual to encourage healing, growth, and transformation. I endeavour to provide a warm, compassionate, open presence, and a safe space for my clients. I believe collaboration is key in the therapeutic process.
I especially enjoy working with issues related to expat life, ADHD, maternal mental health, separation/divorce, anxiety/depression, and couples.
The therapeutic approaches I typically work from include: Psychodynamic, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion, Existential Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy.
