I have studied mainly in London and Madrid - Tavistock and Portman (London), Equipo Centro (Madrid), Portland Institute for Loss and Transition (US), Ananda (Pamplona), Universitat de Barcelona, Pink Therapy, etc. - I continue working with individuals, couples and organisations in Spain and the UK. I'm an accredited member of UK Council for Psychotherapy https://www.psychotherapy.org.uk/therapist/Carlos-Molina-D05ptAAB and of AETG (Spanish Association for Gestalt Therapy).
I continue learning through reflecting in my practice and supervising my work regularly. I also study constantly. I am interested in how we integrate the physical movement and sensation in the therapeutic process and viceversa. I also understand the importance of gender, race, culture, sexuality and choice of relationships in the individual's experience.
A typical first session with me would be a time for you to broadly explain what you are going through right now, and what you are hoping to achieve through working with me. This is also an oportunity for us to see if we can work together, and for me to start learning about who you are, what your needs your strengths are like. This is obviously an ever-changing process and is regularly and organically reviewed as the work goes on in each session. In individual therapy, it is the client who will find their strength and their resilience. In couples therapy, the 2 people involved will identify what doesn't work any more, and find new ways of relating that can allow them to continue loving each other and growing as individuals.
Psychotherapy for me means finding how we can suffer less and enjoy more. This can sometimes only happen with support. My belief – based on more than 20 years of experience working with children, families, adults, groups and couples – is that with attention and appropriate help, we can find the way forward. I support these processes with consistency, presence and careful feedback. I have a special interest in integrating intellect, emotion and physical sensation, all with absolute respect for my clients’ interests, principles, beliefs, history and life choices.
I have learnt that we can help ourselves and one another to process most painful and disorientating circumstances in life. If we are lucky, we can do it by giving ourselves time and care or by reaching out to those close to us. However, there are personal situations when contacting a counsellor or therapist is the safest, easiest and healthiest way forward.
My core approach is Gestalt Therapy, but I use techniques and experience from integrative psychotherapy, other humanistic therapies, mindfulness, psychoanalysis, coaching, polyvagal theory and other approaches.
I consider myself and my practice to be anti-racist, gender-informed and trauma-informed, and I have an affirmative attitude towards my clients' identities, sexuality and choices in relationships. I have specific training and experience to support this.
