Nurkut Aksu

I am a Psychotherapist in private practice and BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Registered Psychotherapist. I offer psychotherapy sessions using psychoanalytic approach.

To enhance my practice, I have participated in trainings offered by 17 Mayıs Association and SPoD, two prominent LGBTQ+ aassociations in Turkey. I regularly participate in the seminars and symposiums organized by the Istanbul Psikanaliz Derneği (IPA Component Society), alongside psychoanalytic and psychodynamic supervision sessions twice a week, all of which contributed to my practice and professional development.

In addition to my private practice, I have gained valuable experience as a Psychology Intern at French Lape Psychiatric Hospital and Istanbul Çapa Faculty of Medicine, where I attended case evaluation meetings, observed clinics, and participated in lectures on mental health disorders and psychotherapeutic treatments.

I began my academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from McGill University (Canada), before transferring to Bogazici University (Turkey), where I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Istanbul Bilgi University, where my thesis was titled "The Association of Recurrent Dreams with Psychological Symptomatology and Dissociation: Mentalization as a Potential Moderator."

My research experience includes working as a Research Assistant at Istanbul Bilgi University, McGill University, Ozyegin University, Bogazici University, and Koc University, where I contributed to a variety of projects on psychodynamic psychotherapy processes, stress in university students, infant-caregiver attachment, and Turkish Makam music perception. These roles have strengthened my skills in data collection, coding, and analysis, which continue to inform and enrich my clinical practice.
