Hi! How are you? My name is Lorena, and I became a psychologist and a criminologist more than 15 years ago. Here's a bit more about me:
I am a licensed health psychologist who focuses on treating trauma and all its repercussions in adults and adolescents. Since life can lead us down paths that force us to survive and disconnect from ourselves and others, I focus on translating people's distress to help them make informed decisions in the future and feel connected again to who they are and the people around them.
Although I graduated almost two decades ago, my training has also focused on criminology and criminal justice. It wasn't until about 10 years ago, when I was living in the United States, that I realized how neglected victims of violent crime, abuse, and neglect are from various perspectives. I became interested in trauma theory and trained as an EMDR expert, which I consider to be an extraordinary and powerful therapeutic approach. The way I see it, this evidence-based and scientific, humane approach responds to the current needs of our society, which have changed dramatically over the last two decades.
As you will see, each psychotherapist has their own particular style and has trained in different fields, but the most important thing is not this, but the connection you can establish with your psychologist, with whom you will share intimate details that are vital to your process of change.
