About me

Welcome, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here. Reaching out for support is not always easy, and I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to take these steps. Whether you’re starting to explore options or actively looking for your new therapist, I wish you well on your healing journey, wherever it may lead you. I’m here to offer support you if you’re: - Feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or overthinking that interferes with daily life - Carrying the weight of past experiences that still impact your present day - A highly sensitive person (HSP) trying to find balance and ease in a world where you often feel like you don't fit in - Struggling with perfectionism, self-criticism, or a harsh inner voice that leaves you believing that you're not good enough - Navigating the challenges of building a meaningful life in a new country, feeling homesick, disconnected, or unsure where you belong - Wanting to cultivate greater self-compassion, emotional resilience, and a regulated nervous system - Looking to heal, grow, and reconnect with yourself and others in more authentic, values-aligned ways (and looking for a space free from judgement where you can explore what authenticity and values mean to you) I was born and raised in San Francisco, California USA, and have been living in Europe since 2017. Since then I've lived in Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology in the Netherlands and am a registered psychologist with the Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen (NIP #246167). I’ve had the privilege of supporting clients from many cultural backgrounds, and I have lived experience with the unique emotional landscape of living abroad - where questions of belonging, identity, and purpose often arise. My approach is integrative and humanistic, meaning that I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model of therapy. Instead, I adapt my approach to meet your needs and goals, drawing from approaches that I have trained in including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), somatic and body-based practices, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. I’m also informed by Polyvagal theory, which helps us understand how the nervous system senses safety and danger, and how this sense ("neuroception") shapes our reactions, relationships, and daily life. In our sessions, you’ll learn practical tools to regulate your nervous system when you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or numb. Together, we’ll explore how to step out of old patterns of self-judgment, reconnect with your body and internal wisdom, and nurture a kinder relationship with yourself. My role is to hold space for your story with compassion and curiosity: to walk alongside you as you rediscover a sense of connection, meaning, and self-trust. As a therapist, I bring not only my professional training but also my lived experience. My own journey has taught me that while healing isn’t always linear, it is always possible. This understanding helps me meet you where you are, without judgment, and support you in finding what works for you. My goal is to create a judgement-free space where you feel seen, understood, and supported: where all parts of your identity and inner world are welcome.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
ACT: Acceptance and Commitment TherapyRecommended for those who want to stop fighting negative thoughts and learn how to live with more acceptance and focus on what really matters in life.
Integrative therapy Recommended for those who prefer a flexible approach that combines different therapies to meet their unique needs.
Person-centered approachRecommended for those looking for a supportive, non-judgmental space where they can lead the conversation and explore their feelings at their own pace.
My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in curiosity. I believe that healing happens when we feel safe enough to slow down, listen inward, and get curious about ourselves with a sense of gentleness rather than judgment. Whether you’re feeling anxious, disconnected, or caught in cycles that no longer serve you, therapy can be a space to make sense of what’s happening, and move toward meaningful change. In our work together, I aim to provide you with: - Practical tools to calm and regulate your nervous system when you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or numb - Ways to recognize, understand, and respond differently to unhelpful thought patterns and self-critical inner voices - Techniques to reconnect with your body and rebuild a sense of safety and presence - Support in cultivating self-compassion and emotional resilience - Guidance in building healthier, more authentic relationships with yourself and others - A warm, judgment-free space where all parts of your identity are welcome My style is integrative and humanistic, meaning I tailor each session to meet your unique needs and goals. I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), polyvagal-informed techniques, somatic and mindfulness-based practices, and trauma-informed care. Together, these frameworks help us explore both mind and body: creating room for insight, regulation, and deeper connection. I believe therapy should make sense for you and fit into your life. Sometimes that means offering structure and practical strategies; other times, it means holding space for emotions and simply being with what’s here. We’ll work collaboratively to find the right pace and rhythm for your process. Sessions are held online through Zoom or Google Meet, making it easy to access support wherever you are in the world. I recommend starting with weekly sessions as we begin to connect and build momentum, and further along we will discuss what feels right for you and adjust as needed over time, which may evolve to biweekly sessions or monthly check-ins. If you’re ready to take the first step, I invite you to book a free 15-minute consultation. This is an opportunity for us to talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you hope to gain, and to see if we feel like a good fit. There’s no obligation, just a chance to connect and begin exploring what healing could look like for you. Feel free to message me here, or email me directly at beingwellwithkatie@gmail.com Wherever you are in your journey, I wish you gentleness and care along the way.
