About me

I’m a trauma-informed South Asian therapist (psychodynamic psychotherapist) and the three most important and foundational values of my work are hope, kindness, and joy. If you do decide to work with me, know that you'll see all three of them coming up often. I'm always hopeful for my clients, that their lives can be beautiful and things can get better. I believe having people hope and root for us can be deeply healing. When we're having tough conversations and in moments when I challenge you, it will always come from a space of kindness and compassion for your growth. And amidst all the heavy-lift work that you do to improve yourself and your relationships, I ensure that we don't lose sight of the lightness of our being, connecting with the joys of life. I try to create a space where you can express all sides of yourself - the good and the bad, especially the bad. Our bad sides, shadow traits, and emotions are very hard for us to accept in ourselves but the truth is that they are very much an integral part of us being human and there's nothing wrong with it. Diving deeper into these messy parts of us can be scary but having support makes it tolerable. Reflecting on all sides of us can be liberating because we don't have to pretend to be someone else anymore, and we can move towards self-acceptance and by extension more acceptance toward others. This work also means that we take responsibility for ourselves and our actions when it's hard, but it also shows us that we have the power to change our circumstances. You can connect with me for a free consultation call and we can take it from there. Contact: Email: mehak.ahmed67@gmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reflectionisland/

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Psychodynamic therapyRecommended for those looking to explore their emotions deeply and understand how past experiences shape their present life.
Trauma Informed CareRecommended for those who have experienced trauma and need a safe, supportive space to heal at their own pace.
I follow a relational psychodynamic lens to therapy. In our therapeutic relationship, we’ll be focusing on healing through reflecting on past childhood experiences, relationships with parents, partners, and other family members, and exploring our attachment styles more deeply. Through these reflections, we might find repetitive patterns in our lives across spaces (work, friends, etc) that might have their origin in the past. We’ll delve deeper into the anxiety, depression, or other challenges we have. We’ll do all of this to connect with our deeper unconscious. We’ll develop greater self-awareness, and get in touch with who we truly are. As your therapist, I’ll create a safe and non-judgmental space for you where your real authentic self feels safe to come out and exist. If you’re a South Asian person living in the West, I understand the unique challenges you may face balancing two different cultures and navigating cultural expectations and family dynamics. Together, we can make sense of the constant push and pull that happens, the grey areas you might be in, and gain clarity about what your values are as a person inheriting two cultures. Through reflection and exploration, we can work together to heal past wounds and build a brighter future. Our past might affect our present, but we have the power to change that and not let it decide our future. We have the power to build a future where there's peace and contentment.
