As a clinical psychologist, I’m here to support you in discovering your, or your couple's, inner resources be it in French, English or Portuguese.
I’m a Portuguese psychologist active in the field of psychology since 2009. I started as a social worker in Portugal, having in 2011 emigrated to Belgium. In Brussels, I worked for 13 years as a psychologist in the social and mental health sector in Brussels, with both French and English speaking community. Today, I’m thrilled to call Portugal my new home again.
My work and life in Brussels has led me to specialise in issues relating to immigration and trauma. Like no other, I understand the unique challenges of living abroad, loneliness, identity questions, and how it can impact your emotions, relationships, and overall well-being.
Due to my professional, personal and family experience, I'm particularly keen of working with an immigrant/expat population. My master's degree was obtained through an in-dept study on bi-cultural couples, their challenges, fragilities, and, of course, strengths: "So, what's for dinner tonight?" Agreement and decision-making in bicultural couples.
Be it on-line or in-person sessions that you prefer, I'll start with a 50mins appointment directly. The recurrence and duration of the process will be object of discussion between you and me.
I use Schema Therapy as my main approach, for individual as well as for couple therapy. Never the less, I tend to make use of several tools of other schools of therapy (Systemic, Cognitive-Behavioral and ACT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) during my sessions in order to help you or your couple.
I focus on emotions, patterns and symptoms. I will concentrate on diminishing symptoms, albeit always paying attention to attachment figures in the past and how those relations played a role and influenced adult life and present relations. This is a shared discovery: I do not own the truth about you or your couple, we'll work together, bridging the past and the present.
I often follow trainings on particular techniques/forms of therapy that I find interesting and that are evidence based, in order to offer my clients an effective, longstanding and, when possible, expedite intervention.
I'm a down to earth and approachable therapist. I'm welcoming, friendly, easy to talk to and I tend to make use of humor create a bond and to engage reflection. I'll have a more pro-active style during the sessions.
Above all, I will always put your, or the couple's, well-being in the central role of the relationship that we'll weave together. As they say in french "je suis à votre service".
I consider easy and affordable access to mental health essential: please don't hesitate to book a session if money is an issue. We'll find a solution together.
