Humans are not inherently born with mental health difficulties. Even though we can have certain vulnerabilities, our response giving mechanisms to stress, and adversity are triggered by our experiences early in life. As an adult psychotherapist, I have adopted the principles of Cognitive-Behavior Therapy and Schema therapy. In addition, I conduct EMDR therapy with adults when I think that EMDR therapy is suitable for the needs of my clients. My goal is to form a therapeutic relationship with my clients on the basis of collaboration and empathy; understand the internal needs of the client and create a psychotherapy plan accordingly.
EMDR Therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach which perceives the psychopathology from a trauma perspective. EMDR aims to address the issues involving past, present and future through targeting past experiences, triggers, potential challenges and presenting symptoms. It resolves trauma and adverse life experiences with the incorporation of bilateral stimulation and dual focus of attention. The process enables the activation of disturbing components of memory as well as the resumption of adaptive information processing and integration. As a result, EMDR allows us to reprocess the distressing and traumatic memories of an individual. An EMDR session last for 90 minutes.
As a couple’s therapist, I have adopted the principles and techniques of Gottman Method Couples Therapy. The goals of therapy with couples are to deactivate the conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect and affection; and create a sense of empathy and understanding in the context of the relationship. A couple session last for 90 minutes.
