About me

I am a licenced psychologist and a trainee psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapist based in Thessaloniki, Greece. I completed my BSc in Psychology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and my MSc in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology at University College London, in a joint postgraduate studies program with the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families. I am currently training as a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapist at DIKEPSY, an Athens-based training organization offering a BACP-accredited psychotherapy diploma.

I have worked in various settings such as NGOs, mental health care and psychosocial support throughout my working life. I am currently working as a freelance psychologist, offering psychotherapeutic sessions to adults and minors as well as parents' counselling. I had the opportunity to study and work as an expat in the UK for many years, an experience that has been seminal for my understanding of an expat's emotional and personal difficulties. In addition, I have been particularly involved both academically and psychotherapeutically with loss and grief related situations as well as anxiety-related symptoms, such as panic attacks and psychosomatic symptoms.

I offer online sessions in greek and english and you can contact me at +306944815455 or at panostzouvelekis@gmail.com

About Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

The psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapy approach relies on the idea that past experiences, unconscious motivations and the relationships with early figures of care influence and impact one's present life. A deeper understanding of the person's-in-therapy own motivations, emotional states and relational difficulties is the goal of psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapy, as it allows the person to exercise more control over his/her decisions in life. A free expression of one's ideas, thoughts, dreams and emotions is highly encouraged within the therapeutic setting. Each session lasts for 50 minutes and it usually takes place the same day and the same time, usually on a weekly basis. The first three sessions are considered the evaluation period. These sessions are dedicated to current issues affecting the person in-therapy, past experiences or relationships with others considered important as well as the person's-in-therapy goals and wishes from therapy. After the completion of the third session, therapist and person-in-therapy co-decide the therapeutic plan. Psychodynamic psychotherapy's duration varies and can last from 6 months to many years. It is an approach most suitable for those who wish to commit in long-term therapy.
