I create a safe, non-judgmental space to help clients understand themselves better, uncover their own capacity to heal from pain, and ultimately find more meaning, authenticity, and joy in their life.
I am a USA trained mental health clinician, having received a Master's degree from the University of Texas-Austin in 2008. During my 17 years in the mental health field, I have worked in a variety of settings, including a domestic violence shelter, schools, with asylum seekers, and private practice. I am registered with the Onafhankelijk Therapeuten Register (Independent Therapist Register) by the Nederlandse Federatie Gezondheidszorg (Dutch Healthcare Federation).
In my current private practice, I focus on helping adults to recover from traumatic events and manage Anxiety. My approach is based on the mind-body connection and rooted in the belief that we all have the innate capacity to heal ourselves. I meet my clients where they are and use an integrative approach, drawing from a variety of therapeutic models such as CBT, Mindfulness, and Somatic Awareness. I have extensive experience helping clients recover from the effects of traumatic events and am certified in EMDR, a research based treatment for PTSD. I have a special interest in working with pregnant and postpartum individuals and completed training with Postpartum Support International and advanced training on using EMDR to address birth trauma and other perinatal concerns.
As an immigrant myself, I am passionate about supporting immigrants and expats with their unique mental health needs. Having previously studied and worked abroad in France, Mexico, and Chile, I am no stranger to the loneliness, isolation, and identity shifts that can come with living abroad. I enjoy helping other immigrants and expats to find their confidence and identity in a new environment.
I meet my clients with empathy, compassion, and the greatest respect for having the courage to look at oneself with honesty and embrace change. My clients describe me as non-judgmental, patient, caring, and compassionate. I strive to create a balance of honest directiveness and warmth. I actively listen to understand your story and do not make assumptions about your lived experience. For me, the relationship is the most important factor in succesful therapy and your feeling of safety, trust, and comfort with me is essential.
My training as a social worker taught me to look at individuals not as just a diagnosis but through the lens of the various systemic issues that impact them. I am LBTQIA affirming and practice from an anti racist and anti oppressive lens.
During our therapy sessions, we will explore your goals and create a plan for you to feel better and live with more freedom and self compassion. We will work with the mind and body, exploring how emotions, thoughts, and sensations hold information about your symptoms and the path forward. We will explore your history and do the hard work together of facing past traumas and painful events. I cannot promise that doing this type of deep and honest work will always be easy but I can promise that you will not do it alone. Whatever concerns you bring to our sessions, I will greet with great compassion, respect, and thoughtfulness.
I have been practicing as a therapist since 2008. I have worked in variety of settings including schools, a domestic violence shelter, with asylum seekers, and in private practice. I have worked with clients from the ages of 5-78 and currently focus on working with adults from young adults to senior citizens.
