Holistic, trauma-informed counselling for expats looking for more clarity, confidence, and inner peace. I invite you to a gentle, deep process to help you move beyond what's holding you back and reconnect with yourself.
I’ve always had a deep and ongoing interest in psychology, holistic health, and integrative approaches to wellbeing. As a Bulgarian-born Canadian, I’ve lived, studied, and worked in seven countries across three continents — most extensively in Canada, Italy, and the Netherlands. My own migrant and expat experiences have profoundly shaped both my personal growth and my work as a counsellor. I understand firsthand how living abroad can amplify unresolved triggers, intensify self-doubt, and evoke a sense of not truly belonging — both in the community and within yourself. I feel honored every time someone trusts me with their inner world, and I continue to learn and grow alongside them, both personally and professionally.
My educational background is in Psychology (University of British Columbia and University of Bologna) and Socio-Cultural Studies (University of Groningen and University of Krakow), followed by a specialized training in therapeutic counselling (Vancouver College). I am a member of the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada and the International Association for Counselling; I have been in helping professions since 2008, and working exclusively in the field of mental health for over 7 years – initially at an NGO for family and somatic therapy, then as part of a holistic clinic team, and consequently in my private practice BMpowered Counselling which I founded in Vancouver, Canada.
As I travel back and forth between countries, I currently offer online sessions, meeting clients from around the world, time zones permitting. I offer sessions in English (native), Bulgarian (native), Italian (advanced) and have a working-level knowledge of French.
My therapeutic approach is non-diagnostic and person-centered, meaning I see YOU as the expert of your own life, having the capacity to self-heal, develop resilience and access your inner resources with my support. It is also holistic, integrative, and deeply attuned to the unique context of your life. As part of the initial holistic assessment and ongoing sessions, I take into consideration your personal experiences, as well as the broader socio-cultural factors that shape your wellbeing — especially the complexities that often accompany living abroad.
As your therapist, I can support you if you're going through the motions and wishing for something to shift, feeling stuck in your own head, or disconnected from who you truly are. This often looks like persistent self-doubt, difficulty knowing your needs, the lingering weight of past experiences, or that quiet sense of being overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and not quite whole.
In view of my understanding that mind and body are inseparable, you may expect an invitation to explore how challenging experiences, emotions and beliefs manifest physically. Beyond insight and reflection, sessions may integrate working with internal parts, somatic processing, breathwork, mindfulness practices, and other holistic modalities to support deeper self-connection— including aspects that lie beyond the rational mind. As a Certified Integrative Mental Health Practitioner (CIMHP), I can also offer nutritional guidance and wellness-oriented recommendations to support your overall mental and emotional balance, enhancing the therapeutic process.
My wish as your therapist is to build a relationship of trust and collaboration, and to hold a space in which you feel safe to explore all parts of you and to allow for change to unfold. And that extends to how we structure our time together: I find that it works well to begin with weekly sessions, gradually moving to bi-weekly or ad-hoc meetings, depending on how the process evolves, as we check in regularly on where you're at in relation to your initial goals and the changes you're hoping for. When you feel ready to move forward on your own, I always recommend a closing session - to honor the work we've done together and mark the transition with intention.
It's important to me that we feel we are a good fit for each other before beginning this journey. I invite you to book a free 20-minute consultation call to talk about what brings you here and explore how I can best support you.
You may also message me with your preferences for days/times that would be most suitable for your schedule and I'll do my best to accommodate those. If you are a student or someone experiencing financial difficulties feel free to inquire about my sliding scale.
